Darlington High School Band alumnae graduates from Winston-Salem State University.
Makayla Sheppard is a native of Darlington, South Carolina. She attended Darlington High School in 2013 and graduated from Darlington High School in 2017. While attending Darlington High School, Makayla was a member of the Darlington Marching Band for four years as a Clarinetist and a Clarinet Section Leader. Makayla has been under the leadership of current Director Mr. Brendan L. Johnson, where he also served in mentoring positions while in high school, such as Section Leader. Upon graduating from Darlington High School, Makayla became a student at Francis Marion University and later transferred to Winston Salem State University, where she majored in Healthcare Management. Director of Bands Brendan Johnson says: "Makayla was always a bright and happy student full of life. She was a part of the first band I walked into at Darlington High School. Makayla, like her brothers and sisters, was a very talented clarinetist. She was known for making the District Honor Band, All-County Honor Band, and the Region Honor Band. There were not many times when I did not catch her smiling or joking around with her peers. I am proud of her and what's next for her in life".
While at Winston Salem State University, Makayla completed more than 240 internship hours providing services for the aging. Makayla was classified as an honor student transferring from Francis Marion University.
Makayla plans to further her education by attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to obtain a Masters's Degree in Healthcare Administration.
We are beyond excited about the success of Makayla Sheppard. Join us as we share her achievements.
